Ilê Aiyê

The outstanding Afro-Brazilian music group was founded in 1974 by Vovô (Antônio Carlos dos Santos) and Apolônio de Jesus in Salvador, in the State of Bahia (NE). Ilê Aiyê was one of the first groups to work on the preservation of African culture in Bahia. Its traditional music is based on the drum beats and vocal power. Ilê Aiyê has made several albums and frequently tours abroad. Their cultural project sponsors the education of several deprived children in Salvador, capital of Bahia.

Ilê Aiyê’s greatest hits include "Que Bloco É Esse", "Depois que o Ilê Passar", "Charme da Liberdade", "Viva o Rei", "Décima Quinta Sinfonia", "Exclusão" and "Deusa do Ébano".
