Legião Urbana
One of the most important groups of the BRock movement, Legião Urbana appeared in Brasília, in 1983. Legião was originated from the punk band Aborto Elétrico, lined-up by Renato Russo in the late 1970s. Guitarist Dado Villa-Lobos and drummer Marcelo Bonfá joined bassist/vocalist Russo. Bassist Negrete participated in a few historic albums, such as "Que País É Esse?", and many shows. In the 80s, they became known outside of Brasília, playing a lot in Rio de Janeiro and enjoying hit tracks such as "Geração Coca-Cola" and 'Ainda É Cedo". The first single came out in 1985 and featured "Será", and instant hit. From then on, the band grew steadily, gathering countless fans along the 80s and 90s and being eventually regarded as the greatest rock band in the country. The band released eight albums before Renato Russo's death in 1996 with Aids-related complications. Russo also had two successful albums as a solo act, one with Italian songs and another that was released pothumously. Renato's death reactivated a type of mythology over his name, turning him into an even bigger idol among adolescents who hadn't even witnessed Legião Urbana's most popular phases. Some of Legião's greatest hits are: "Quase sem Querer", "Eduardo e Mônica", "Faroeste Caboclo", "Pais e Filhos", "Meninos e Meninas" and "Angra dos Reis".
