Tito Madi
18/07/1929
His father and brothers were musicians, and he started playing at age 10. He worked on the radio in his hometown (Pirajuí, São Paulo). By the late 1940s, he began writing music and organizing events. Around 1952, he headed for the city of São Paulo, working on the radio and TV. Some of his songs were recorded during that period, and he moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1954. In Rio, he was a crooner, worked on the radio, and kept writing songs. His first big hit was "Chove Lá Fora", recorded in 1957. The song was translated into English as "It's Raining Outside", being recorded by Della Reese and The Platters. The Platters also recorded other versions of Tito Madi's songs. Tito was a pre-bossa nova songwriter, having influenced the movement with his samba-tunes and modern harmonies that can be found on "Cansei de Ilusões", "Sonho e Saudade", "Carinho e Amor" and "Não Diga Não". Other hits: "Fracassos de Amor" and "Gauchinha Bem Querer".
